Why recycled materials?
The first Buncombe Buckle was made from discarded metal trash from
a communal blacksmithing shop in 2001. The company was born
from this idea. We love the left over parts!
While working
with scrap parts informs the designs of the buckles, using reclaimed
materials is also a huge part of our mission as a conscientious,
sustainable, small business. We have a huge, local, family
run scrap yard in Asheville and Buncombe Buckles has been going there
for ten years to get all of our steel material for our belt buckles. These
small parts are then cleaned, arranged, and welded for each indestructible
buckle.
In addition to the scrap yard, we love to scavenge
for vintage parts. We scour the thrift stores and junk stores
for old furniture hardware, brass trinkets, antique cookie tins,
and any other weird old parts to be repurposed into small wearable
sculptures for your belt.
